Currently, John serves as a Fire Commissioner for South Pierce Fire and Rescue and as a Director for Washington State Fire Commissioners Association Position 7, which covers both Pierce and Thurston Counties. This dual role has given him a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and needs of our first responders and the broader community.
John holds a Master's Degree in Work and Labor Policies, complimented by an advanced certificate in Workforce Development. John aspires to expand registered apprenticeship programs to align with the shifting demands of occupations and future employment landscapes.
John also volunteers as the Market Sale Manager for both the Pierce County Fair and Pierce County Fair Foundation. He is dedicated to nurturing the development of our youth through 4-H and FFA initiatives.
In his spare time, John manages his own farm where he raises show-quality sheep and pigs. Through his farming work, he is able to impart invaluable lessons in animal husbandry, fiscal responsibility, and resource management to our young people.
John lives with his wife, Ingrid, in Roy. Ingrid serves as an instructor at a technical college and his daughter is studying agriculture abroad.
